Who we are

The Iron Wheel Inn & Tavern carries with it more than a century of local history.

Originally built as an immigration hall in 1910 near the old Grand Trunk Railway station east of Entwistle, the building soon found new life as the Pembina Hotel.

After two earlier hotels were lost to fire, the hall was purchased and moved into the village by Mr. Munroe, who opened it for hotel business in 1919.

Today, as the Iron Wheel Inn & Tavern, we are proud to preserve this heritage while offering warm hospitality, hearty meals, and a welcoming place to gather—just as the building has done for more than 100 years.

Our History

    Original Pembina Hotel

    (Early 1900s)

    The first Pembina Hotel. A tall, three-story landmark with a wrap around balcony, serving travellers and locals in the early days of the community.

    Rebuilt Pembina Hotel

    (Mid-1900s)

    A simpler two story version replaced the original structure, continuing the hotel’s role as a hub for meals, rest, and gatherings.

    Pembina Hotel

    (1950s–1970s)

    After fire destroyed the previous two Hotels, a new chapter began. The hotel stood on the foundation of Entwistle’s original immigration hall, built in 1910.
